Christmas in Fredericksburg: Holiday Wine Tours, Lights and Events (2026)
By the Creekstreet Wine Tours team · October 18, 2026

When is Christmas season in Fredericksburg in 2026?
Fredericksburg’s holiday season officially starts on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2026, two days before Thanksgiving, when the town lights its Community Christmas Tree and German Christmas Pyramid at Marktplatz for the first time. The Christmas Nights of Lights then repeats every evening through Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2027 [1].
That gives you roughly six weeks of decorated Main Street, holiday wine events and cooler tasting-room weather. The busiest stretch is the first two weekends of December, when the parade and most of the big ticketed events land. If you want calm tasting rooms and easy reservations, aim for a weeknight in late November or the week of Dec. 7.
What happens at the Christmas Nights of Lights?
Each evening at Marktplatz, holiday music starts at 5pm. At 6pm there is a 10-minute audio presentation about the town’s German heritage, with carols, ending in a countdown to the lighting. The music wraps up at 6:30pm [1].
Two things are worth seeing up close:
- The German Christmas Pyramid. It stands 26 feet tall and was hand-crafted in Germany in 2009 specifically for Fredericksburg. Most pyramids are table-top size, so this one is a real oddity [1].
- The Community Christmas Tree. It is 30 feet tall and decorated with hand-crafted ornaments donated by Hill Country artisans [1].
The lighting is skipped on two nights in 2026: Friday, Dec. 4 (parade night) and Thursday, Dec. 31 (the city’s New Year’s Eve event) [1]. Plan around those if the lighting is the reason for your trip.
What are the big Fredericksburg holiday events in 2026?
Here is every 2026 date we could confirm on an official page as of Oct. 18, 2026. Check the source before you book, since times can change.
| Date (2026) | Event | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Sat, Nov. 21 | Historic Home Tour (Gillespie County Historical Society) | 11am to 5pm, $40, includes Pioneer Museum admission [2] |
| Mon, Nov. 23 to Fri, Dec. 18 | Christmas Wine Affair passport | 50+ Hill Country wineries, $65 pass, one tasting per winery [3] |
| Tue, Nov. 24 to Jan. 5, 2027 | Christmas Nights of Lights | Nightly at Marktplatz, 6pm countdown [1] |
| Fri, Dec. 4 | Light the Night Christmas Parade | Main Street, 6:30pm to 7:45pm; vendors on Marktplatz 3pm to 9pm [4] |
| Tue, Dec. 8 | Holiday Winemaker Dinner | Hill + Vine, 6pm reception, $150, limited to 60 guests [5] |
| Fri, Dec. 11 | Tannenbaum Ball | 6pm to 11pm, St. Mary’s Holy Family Center [6] |
| Thu, Dec. 31 | Countdown to 2027 | Marktplatz, 3pm to 6:30pm, free; ball drop at 6:30pm [7] |
A few notes on the parade: it has run for more than 30 years, features more than 150 lit floats, and reserved bleacher seats in front of the library are sold separately. After the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus take free photos from 8pm to 9pm at Peppermint Platz, in the Oktoberfest Halle on Marktplatz [4].
How do the holiday wine events work?
The Christmas Wine Affair is the big one. Texas Hill Country Wineries sells a passport good from Nov. 23 to Dec. 18, 2026, with one tasting at each participating winery, at more than 50 wineries. The pass is $65, and couples passes are also offered [3]. Wineries run on their own hours, usually opening at 10 or 11am and closing at 5 or 6pm, and some require reservations [3].
The catch is that it is self-guided. Fifty wineries spread along US-290 and the back roads around Fredericksburg means a lot of driving, and every stop includes a tasting. If you buy a passport, decide in advance who is driving, or let someone else do it.
The Holiday Winemaker Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 8 is smaller and dressier. It is a six-course dinner at Hill + Vine in downtown Fredericksburg, paired with wines from six Hill Country wineries, at $150 per person with holiday cocktail attire. Seats are capped at 60, and no refunds are given after Nov. 30 [5]. The organizers ask guests to plan safe transportation [5].
How do you combine a wine tour with the Christmas lights?
The easiest holiday day in Fredericksburg looks like this:
- 11am to 4pm: a day tour. The Gold Wine Tour visits three wineries with tasting fees paid and a box lunch from Sozial Haus. The Silver Wine Tour is the same three-winery day if you bring your own lunch.
- 4pm to 5:30pm: drop-off and a break. Pickup and drop-off are free inside Fredericksburg city limits, so you can be back at your room by late afternoon.
- 5pm to 6:30pm: walk to Marktplatz for the music, the 6pm countdown and the pyramid. Main Street shops are steps away.
If you would rather taste after dark, the Starlight Wine Tour runs 5:15pm to 9:30pm: two wineries at sunset, a sit-down dinner in town and a 30-minute drive in a limo with a starlight ceiling. It skips the 6pm lighting, so pair it with a daytime walk past the tree and pyramid instead. For a private group that wants to set its own schedule, the Private Platinum Plus lets you choose the start time and three wineries from a list of 40+.
On parade night, Dec. 4, Main Street fills up by late afternoon. Book a day tour that returns by 4pm, then walk to the parade route instead of driving.
Is a holiday wine tour a good office party or family gift?
It is a practical one. Two ideas that work in December:
- Group outings. The Fall Special gives $10 off per person for groups of 10 or more on the Karaoke Limo Bus or the Hummer Limo, with lunch and tasting fees at three wineries included. The tour must be booked and taken by Dec. 20, 2026, and it is booked by phone. See current specials. Our guide to Fredericksburg wine tours for large groups covers vehicle sizes.
- Gift certificates. Call (832) 247-0914 and Creekstreet will create a personalized gift certificate and mail it to you. Short on time? We email you a copy you can give right away, then mail the official certificate. It has our seal pressed into the paper, so nobody can copy it.
What should you know before booking in December?
- Holiday hours. Wineries set their own hours, and many close or shorten hours around Thanksgiving (Thursday, Nov. 26), Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Confirm before you plan a stop. Creekstreet does not run tours on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, but we do run tours the day before and the day after each one.
- Book early for parade weekend. Dec. 4 and 5 compete with the parade and the first full weekend of holiday visitors. Our best time to visit Fredericksburg for wine guide has more on crowd patterns.
- Dress in layers. Winter tasting rooms are warm, but outdoor patios and the Marktplatz lighting are not. See what to wear to a Fredericksburg winery.
- Price it out. Tours do not include 8.25% sales tax or gratuity. The cost guide breaks down a full day.
- Cancellation. More than 48 hours ahead costs $60 per canceled seat; inside 48 hours or a no-show is charged in full.
Ready to plan your holiday trip?
Pick your date, then compare the tours or call (832) 247-0914, open 7 days from 8am to 8pm. Mention the Fall Special if you have 10 or more people and want to go before Dec. 20.
